Event: NIAD-UE University Evaluation Forum 2012 (Monday 23rd July, 2012) The event has been finished
Theme:
Student Learning and the Future of Higher Education
Objectives:
It is now commonly recognized across the world as well as in Japan that students are the foremost stakeholders in higher education, and that the quality assurance on students' learning experience is the challenge for the contemporary higher education.
NIAD-UE has hosted a series of University Evaluation Forums from the perspective of higher education quality assurance along with its evaluation and accreditation activities, with a view to helping institutions adopt evaluation culture in Japan. The Forum this year aims at elucidating the current practices and challenges with respect to learning outcomes in the United States, where great headway has been made in terms of the methodology of learning outcomes assessment. We will discuss the significance of putting the students’ learning experience at the center as the interface between society and higher education.
The Forum will provide a platform for colleagues from higher education institutions and others interested in the provision of higher education so that they can discuss and exchange views on the various topics of learning outcomes; "What learning outcomes are expected in higher education in the first place?", "How best can higher education institutions demonstrate students' achievements to the society?", and "How do we capture/measure learning outcomes and apply the results for assuring and improving quality of higher education?".
