Regarding the remarkable developments of strategies and quality assurance frameworks for higher education in China, NIAD-UE held the Japan-China Seminar with the aim of contributing to the development of the quality of higher education in both countries, through inviting specialists from the higher education sector in China.

The specialists presented were Mr. Liu Fengtai, Consultant of Higher Education Department and Director General of the Higher Education Evaluation Center of Ministry of Education; Dr. Li Guoqiang, Vice-President of Tongji University; and Mr. Ren Zenglin, Deputy Director of Office of Academic Degree Committee of the State Council (Department of Academic Degree Management and Postgraduate Education, Ministry of Education).

They offered the general and specific topics including:
- the scientific and functional review process the Evaluation Center set out after its repeated studies and trials for quality assurance methodologies
- how the monitoring systems are being operated by three parties-the government, provinces and universities- to ensure the quality of postgraduate education
- the rational internal review methods being implemented in Tongji University.

The audience paid their full attention to each presentation, taking notes and asking constructive questions, which indicated the high interest towards Chinese higher education.
