News: Ceremony Held to Commemorate Institutional Merger
NIAD-QE held an institutional merger commemoration ceremony for the National Institution for Academic Degrees and Quality Enhancement of Higher Education at the National Center of Sciences on August 4, 2016.
The ceremony commemorated the merger of the National Institution for Academic Degrees and University Evaluation (NIAD-UE) and the Center for National University Finance and Management (CUFM) into a new institution on April 1, 2016. It was conducted grandly with the attendance of around 180 persons from such bodies as the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, national, municipal/prefectural and private universities, the National Institute of Technology, educational institutions operated by government ministries or agencies, university-affiliated organizations, and incorporated administrative agencies.
During the ceremony, Hideki Fukuda, Ph.D., President of NIAD-QE, explained the current status of NIAD-QE’s different undertakings and expressed its determination to work to increase the quality of higher education and further strength its support functions in the future.
Following his speech, congratulatory addresses were given by Mr. Kihei Maekawa, Vice Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Dr. Susumu Satomi, President of the Japan Association of National Universities and President of Tohoku University, and Dr. Isao Taniguchi, President of the National Institute of Technology.
Additionally, of the overseas quality assurance agencies with which NIAD-QE has signed memorandums of understanding on cooperation, Mr. Chris Banks, CBE, Chairman of the QAA Board, Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education in the United Kingdom, and Dr. Choi Joon Yul, President of the Korean University Accreditation Institute and Korean Council for University Education, sent video messages commemorating the merger.
With many persons concerned in attendance, the ceremony was a valuable opportunity to hear expectations and opinions of NIAD-QE.
